Pops of Colour

It is amazing how just small changes can brighten my day.  I had some limes in my fridge so I  added them to a glass bowl in our freshly painted kitchen and it made me happy.

What awesome and practically free changes have you made lately?

Learning and Cleaning

I learned something about myself today...
Apparently, I love shoes!

We had a taste of summer for the past two weeks.  Which has put me completely behind in all my projects.  Who wants to paint the house or stain a table when the sun is shining and the park is calling your name.  So instead of working on projects we have been playing outside.  Family time is so precious to me and work can wait.  My type A personality is starting to go a little crazy in the half completed mess but I know it will be done soon and that family time is more important than creating a beautiful home.

While The Boss was sleeping, I decided to squeeze in a small spring cleaning project.  Our front hall closet has been driving me crazy for a few weeks now so it was time to purge and tidy.  This picture is just a portion of the closet there are many more shoes, don't even get me started with my heels, however I had no idea I had so many pairs until I started to organize them.  Growing up my older sister was the shoe girl...she still is.  She always found and bought fabulous shoes.  And it seems as though her little niece is taking after her.

The Boss can often be found tromping around the house in mine or Mr. D's shoes.  Anytime someone's shoes are left at the front door I'll hear her wrestling to get them on and eventually she comes into the kitchen to show me her new pair.  Another reason why the closet needed to be cleaned...so there were no excuses for not putting shoes away.

It was very cleansing to go through, getting rid of and tidy the closet.  I actually love spring cleaning and have spent sometime in other areas of our house purging.  Look out Goodwill...I am bringing in what I purchase two fold!  My goal is to tackle one project a week.  Is anyone having a linky party for this?  That might be good motivation to keep me going.

Happy Spring!

First Birthday Party Project #5- DIY Games {Part 2}

This is the second last posting about The Boss' birthday.  The other day I posted about one of the games we played.  The other game I planned for The Boss' party was inspired from an Easter DIY found in the April 2011 issue of Canadian Family magazine.

Materials Needed:

  • Old or new socks
  • Sandwich bags
  • Dried Beans
  • Embroidery Thread
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Hula Hoops

  1. Fill sandwich bags with beans.  You don't want the bean bag to be to packed so you might have to fill the bag and try it in the sock.
  2. Stitch the eyes and nose on the sock approximately where the heel of the sock would be.
  3. Put the beans in the sock and tie it off at the top.  Cut the tube section of the sock in half creating the ears of the bunny.
  4. Tie a bow separating the head of the bunny from the body of the bunny.

I unfortunately didn't get a photo of these finished and in their little bucket but I had them in a pink sand pale with two pink hula hoops.  This kids took the bunnies out of the bucket and tossed them into the hula hoop.  Super easy and kid friendly!

Spring Party

This weekend my niece turned one and my sister and brother-in-law hosted our family and friends to celebrate their baby girl.  They had a butterfly theme which went perfectly with the time of year.  My sister used bright colours and fun decorations to make her special day perfect.

The beautiful host...my Sister with her Pottery Barn inspired Butterfly Mobile

Here's the Pottery Barn version...$89.99

...and my sister's.

Isn't it amazing!!!!  She used scrapbook paper from the dollar store, fishing line and a twig.
They looked adorable and were a hit with the kids!

I helped create these Martha Stuart inspired centre pieces.  We followed this tutorial for the flowers and then my sister added butterfly pictures she had taken at a butterfly conservatory.

The birthday girl had the perfect dress for her party too.

Finally, could this cake be anymore perfect?  My Brother-in-law is a chef, and this cake tasted as good as it looked!

Happy Birthday Baby Abby!

Our Weekend....

This weekend all three of us were plagued with a spring cold, meaning our weekend was filled with this...

BUT, tonight is date night, so my man brought me tulips!

I LOVE them!

Happy Spring!
